Healthy Bodies/Healthy Business is an 8 week course that leads up to the SD CEO 5K/10K Run & Walk on June 16th. The 8 sessions will provide you with health information from local professionals. Each session is offered in Spearfish (on Tuesdays)from noon to 1pm. You can register for these sessions individually or as a group package.

Want to attend one session? Cost is $10 for each session.

Session 3: "Staying Healthy - Injury Prevention" -May 1st Spearfish, Black Hills State University Young Center Room #206.

Tintypes Auditions at the Matthews Opera House. Auditions will be held from 7:00 – 8:30 PM on May 1st and 2nd at the Matthews Opera House for the musical production, Tintypes.

A pre-audition harmony part rehearsal will be held from 6:30 – 7:00PM for those who would like to attend. The show will cast a minimum of 3 females and 2 males. Sheet music and scripts are available in The Gallery at 612 Main Street in downtown Spearfish. The show dates are June 14-17 and 21-24.

On Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 8:00 PM, the Planning Commission and City Council will host an informational site visit to review the technology and terminology pertaining to LED signs. The meeting will begin at the corner of Main and Jackson at 806 Main Street Spearfish South Dakota. The public is invited to attend.

The Country band, Crash Wagon, will be playing this Friday (May 4) and Saturday (May 5) and there is NO Cover!

The Northern Hills Senior Games is a regional athletic festival offered to adults age 50 and over. Sporting events include cycling, bowling, basketball, golf, running, swimming, tennis, track and field and walking. Leisure events include bean bag toss, billiards, jump rope, shuffle board, and table tennis. In addition to the sporting and leisure events, athletes and their guests can enjoy the Friday evening social dinner and medals ceremony.

Bella's annual Walk for Life will be held the Saturday before Mother's Day, May 12th, 9:00-11:00 AM, beginning at the Spearfish City Park. This easy two-mile walk along Spearfish Creek is geared toward people of all ages. You can walk, bike, stroll, jog, run, crawl, roller-blade, hop, skip or otherwise complete the path!! This family event will include activities for children that will help bring out the child in all of us! To participate, pick up a Walk Pledge Form at your local church or at Bella, ask your friends, neighbors, coworkers, etc. to sponsor you for the two-mile walkl, and then come join us on May 12th at Spearfish City Park. (If you can't join us that day, you can still participate by collecting pledges and then walk on your own another day or place!!)

D.C. Booth Day Mixer and Special Friends Recognition! Join us for light hors d'oeuvres and drinks to celebrate the upcoming summer season and to recognize our Special Friends! The Special Friends award recognizes exceptional individuals/groups that contribute to the Booth Society and D.C. Booth Fish Hatchery.

Hershey Track and Field Games will be May 13th at 2:00pm at the Lyle Hare Stadium. Events will include the 50 meter dash, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 1600 meter run, 4 x 100 meter relay, standing long jump, and softball throw. Winners in the Spearfish meet will advance to the state meet on Saturday, June 23. State meet winners do not automatically advance to the North American Final. They are entered into a regional pool and become eligible for selection to a Regional Team which will travel to Hershey, Pennsylvania, to compete in the North American Final Meet. The Hershey’s Track & Field Games has involved millions of youngsters from all 50 states, the District of Colum-bia and the 10 provinces and 3 territories of Canada. It is sponsored by the National Recreation and Park Asso-ciation, USA Track & Field, Athletics Canada and by The Hershey Company.The local sponsor of this program is City of Spearfish.Hershey’s Track & Field Games is designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize participa-tion and sportsmanship.

It's time to pre-register for The Race 3rd Annual 5K Walk/Run! The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 2012. This year all proceeds from the 5K race will go to benefit The Backpack Program in Spearfish and the 2012 Christmas Day Lunch. The Backpack program provides a backpack and a weekly bag of food to students in the public schools who otherwise may not have food for the weekend. The program currently has between 65 and 80 students enrolled and also has a waiting list.

Early registration deadline is May 1st.

Reading segments are ½ hour - and it's only $10 to participate! All funds raised from this event will be used to upgrade the sound system in the Matthews.

Their sound is bluegrassy with a bit of European folk.
